In 2006, Marion Barber was an unpleasant surprise for owners of Dallas Cowboys running back Julius Jones. Why? Because although Jones showed lots of promise, rushing for 1,084 touchdowns, Barber took a lot of his carries away, managing 654 rushing yards, and stealing most of the goal line carries. Barber finished the year with 14 rushing and 2 receiving touchdowns, compared to only 4 total touchdowns for Jones.
Now that former head coach Bill Parcells is out of the picture, the question is how will new head coach Wade Phillips use Jones and Barber? This is one of those situations where there is an upside to both players, but it is much less risky to stick with running backs with no question marks regarding who will get most of the carries.
